  • Airport:   Small but ample facility with restrooms and good A/C. This is a private airport. We attended an advertised fly-in. If you intend on landing here, it is proper that you have an invitation to do so by the appropriate manager or designated party.

  • Restaurant(s):    The Fly-in sponsor provided a BBQ meal at the big hangar for a small fee. We are not familiar with other local dining options beyond the accommodations

  • Historic:    The City of Azle and City of Lakeside are nearby. Eagle Mountain Lake and Lake Worth are nearby.
  • Comments:   Many of the hangars are open. There is really a delightful population of talldraggers and various vintage aircraft there at any given time that are openly viewable. The fly-ins bring in a diverse assortment of beautiful and interesting aircraft.

  • Historic:    Lake Texoma is known as the "striper fishing capitol of the USA."

  • Restaurant(s):   The Flying Grape & Bistro - within the airpark. Verify hours of operation prior. < 1 mile
  • Historic:   Cedar Creek Reservoir immediately adjacent.
  • Comments:   This is a private airfield. Please secure invitation/permission from an airpark resident in order to land here..

  • Airport:  The Annual Flying M Ranch Fly-in hosts several outside food truck vendors which serve BBQ, burgers, etc. We are not familiar with other local dining options beyond the accommodations of the Fly-in.

  • Historic:   The area around the airstrip is heavily wooded - a beautiful backdrop for the non-stop landings and take-offs during the event! Lake Striker is nearby.
  • Comments:   The annual fly-in is a well attended event. A ground controller is provided during the event because of the high traffic and ground movement needs. There are areas designated for RV's, camping and parking. Food vendors and restrooms on site. Small scenic lake off the departure end of RWY 20. This fly-in brings in a LARGE amount of traffic. Keep your head on a swivel!

  • Airport:    Small but ample terminal, cold AC & clean restrooms.
  • Courtesy Car:   Yes, courtesy van available.
  • Restaurant(s):   Numerous dining establishments in town, but we are yet to dine in Smithville. When I was there, the Annual Fly-in was going on, so we did not venture into town. Angler's Bar & Grill, Back Door Café, Billy's Pit Bar B Q, Cedar's Mediterranean Grill - to name a few. > 1 mile

  • Comments:   Well organized and well-run Annual Fly-in is well attended by pilots/planes as well as local population.

     Dublin Municipal |   Dublin, TX  Visited: 09/11/22

  • Airport: "Nice terminal, friendly staff, flight sim, great hospitality! Restrooms and pilots lounge. Great flight simulator set-up. Did not expect that. The mananger allowed us to fly on it while we were there. He could not have been more friendly and accommodating! The airport hosts LSA Fly-Ins twice a year - Spring and Fall!"

  • the Airport Manager. Pleasant environment, good service and good country style food. Future visits may involve us trying other options we would like to give a try. These include the Deer Lease Bar & Grill, Red Barrel Bar & Grill and the Taqueria El Rio & Seafood. Lucky Vines Vinyard & Winery - live music most every Saturday night, at least in the Fall/Summer/Spring. > 1 mile
  • Historic:  Dublin is the former home of the world's oldest Dr Pepper bottling plant. The plant was for many years the only U.S. source for Dr Pepper made with real cane sugar (from Texas-based Imperial Sugar), instead of less expensive high fructose corn syrup. Dublin was the boyhood home of legendary golfer Ben Hogan, born August 13, 1912.
  • Comment:   Fun Fact: In 2005, the Texas Governor signed a bill that designated Dublin as the official "Irish Capital of Texas".

  • Courtesy Car: No. No dining options within walking distance and there is no courtesy car. Make transportation arrangements prior to visit.
  • Restaurant(s): We breakfasted at The Grill at the Harbor Hotel, adjacent to the marina - components of a beautiful private community on Possum Kingdom Lake called The Harbor. It is not typically open to the public w/o reservation at hotel or residence at their apartments, condos and single family homes. (more in comments area) > 1 mile

  • Historic: Possum Kingdom Lake directly adjacent to the airport.
  • Comments: We called the hotel on a random Sunday morning and they graciously sent a vehicle to pick us up. We toured the overall community for 20 minutes or so, before
    delivering us to front door of the hotel and restaurant. After eating, they dropped us off back at the airport. Wow! A truly serendipitous day! If interested in their properties and emenities there, give them a call.

     Lubbock Executive Airpark |   Lubbock, TX  (Visited: 05/27/20)

  • Airport:   Adequate Terminal, friendly staff.
  • Courtesy Car:   Yes, ask for the one of the horns on the front!
  • Restaurant(s):    Did not dine in Lubbock.
  • Historic:    With over 200,000 residents, there is plenty to do in Lubbock. As far as the people, it was ranked the 2nd most conservative city back in 2005.
  • Comments:    Fairly remote location just south of the city.

  • Restaurant(s):    Cooper’s Old Time Pit Barbecue. Eating at Cooper’s in Llano is like a rite of passage for Texans. You’ll walk up to the huge outdoor grills and pick your slab of meat. Pork chops as thick as your counter top, tender ribs, juicy steaks, or the specialty cabrito . Then head inside to add your sides like beans

  • Historic:    City was establishied in the 1870's. Llano River Bridge was built in 1936. The Llano County Museum is located in the former Bruhl's Drugstore. The museum, located on the north end of the Llano River bridge, has exhibits on local history, including a chuckwagon, drug store artifacts, and an outdoor frontier cabin. Adjacent to the museum is the Historic Railyard District in which a train depot hosts a railroad museum and visitor's center.
  • Comments:   Fun Fact: Llano is self proclaimed to be the “Deer Capital of Texas”. The Llano River runs right through town. Related activities can include swimming, fishing, and kayaking. There are several access points in and around Llano, including the Grenwelge Park Access and Llano River Park Ramp. Also, as part of the Annual Earth Art Festival, there is a Rock Stacking Championship. It produces temporary art rock configurations put in place by human hands specifically as part of the festival.
